Happy Monday, Glossers! The weeks until summer are flying by, but no worries because CG has got you covered! Here’s what you may have missed last week. 

5. The Greatest Time of the Year: NBA Playoffs 




The NBA Playoffs are in full swing, but if you’re a huge NBA fan like me, you are well aware. Who will win it all (cough, Memphis Grizzlies, cough)? Keep up with the latest updates here.

4. Country Music Legend Dies at 81


Country Music star George Jones passed away Friday at the age of 81. Jones was known for hits such as “White Lightening” and “She Thinks I Still Care,” and there is no doubt that his legend in the music industry will continue to live on. 

3. White House Correspondence Dinner 2013


While many teens were attending their high school proms this weekend, celebs attended a prom of their own: the 2013 White House Correspondence Dinner. Stars like Amy, Claire, Hayden and Kerry took over the red carpet in stunning gowns (seen above). 

2. Looking for Answers 



Federal officials are still looking for answers from Dzhokhar Tsarneav, the suspect of the Boston Marathon bombings, following his capture last week. Tsarneav told officials that he learned how to build the bombs from a website and is maintaining that his late brother was the mastermind in the attacks. 

1. Mizzou Pride! 


Mizzou students showed their pride Wednesday, April 24, in the Pride Parade presented by the LGBTQ Center. This was just one of several events that make up the center’s Pride Month.

Hope everyone had a great spring break! It’s been quite a week, y’all; here’s what you may have missed while you were getting back into the swing of things.

5. The Leg Injury Felt Around the World


College basketball fans across the country were horrified when Louisville guard Kevin Ware suffered a grisly leg injury during the game against Duke on Sunday. It wasn’t all bad luck for Ware, though: with his encouragement, Louisville went on to beat Duke and progress to the Final Four.

4. The JoBros are Back


Get ready to get in touch with your inner eighth-grade self: the Jonas Brothers released a new single this week after a few years hiatus. The single, “PomPoms,” is a little more mature than the old Disney trio we used to know, but it’s still reminiscent of the days of “Burnin’ Up.”

3. Lilly Pulitzer Dies at 81


Lilly Pulitzer, the designer known for her preppy prints, passed away this week; she was 81 years old.

2. Another Reason Why Mizzou is the Best School Ever



It was announced on Wednesday that a team under University of Missouri professor Frederick Hawthorne has successfully developed a form of radiation that put mice into remission from cancer with no side effects. This breakthrough in cancer research is simply another example of the amazing work that is being done at MU.

1. FINDING DORY. OMG.



Ellen DeGeneres broke the news of the “Finding Nemo” sequel, “Finding Dory,” which is set to release in 2015. Is there a way to buy tickets for movies two years in advance?!

Happy spring break, College Glossers! Here are a few stories you may have missed last week; now, go have some fun in the sun!

5. JT is the Man (as if we already didn’t know…)

Originally predicted to sell 750,000 copies in its first week, Justin Timberlake’s newly released “The 20/20 Experience” is now expected to sell nearly 900,000 copies. If you haven’t already downloaded it, do it now; you won’t be disappointed.

4. Freed After 23 Years



David Ranta, a man accused of killing a beloved New York rabbi in 1990, was exonerated this week after 23 years in prison. Ranta has maintained his innocence for two decades, but prosecutors only recently discovered that no actual physical evidence linked Ranta to the murder. He was released due to “insufficient evidence.”

3. F-E-E-E-ENNY!

 

Nineties kids, rejoice! William Daniels, who played revered Mr. Feeny in the sitcom “Boy Meets World,” confirmed this week that he has signed on to appear in the show’s spinoff, “Girl Meets World.” Filming for the pilot of “Girl Meets World” began in February.

2. Sandy Hook 5k Celebrates Life



A 5k held in order to remember the victims and support the families affected by the Sandy Hook tragedy raised over $400,000 this weekend. The 5k was held in Hartford, Conn., and involved more than 15,000 runners.

1. Brackets ready? It’s March Madness time!


Basketball fans across the country scrambled to perfect their brackets in time for the NCAA’s March Madness, which kicked off last week. Who’s going to win it? Although Mizzou is already out, watch the other teams compete for the coveted trophy!

5. A Bachelor No More

Girls across the nation swooned as hunky Bachelor Sean Lowe proposed to Catherine on the season finale of the hit reality show. All I’m saying is, if it doesn’t work out, Sean can definitely call me. But, seriously.

4. Rough Waters for Carnival Cruise Ship



Carnival Cruise Ship, the Legend, experienced some technical difficulties this week; after toilets stopped working, the company was forced to fly the 4000 passengers back to Florida. This is the company’s fourth ship in the past month to have problems.

3. Lil Wayne Death Scare


Fans of Lil Wayne were sent into a frenzy after the rapper was taken to the hospital due to suffering several seizures this week. Although he was thought to be on his deathbed March 15, he is now doing better and is expected to recover.

2. New Pope in the House



Argentine Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio greeted crowds Wednesday as the new pope, making him the first pope from Latin America. He has officially taken the name Pope Francis.

1. Violin Survived Titanic Sinking


Tests proved this week that a violin found in a British man’s attic is in fact the violin that was played on board as the Titanic sunk a century ago. How the violin survived is unknown, but it’s pretty cool, right? If only Jack had survived, too...

“Argo” and sinkholes and horsemeat … oh my? Check out some of the stories you may have missed last week in today’s Weekly Wrap-Up.

5. An Unlikely Ambassador

Dennis Rodman, the retired NBA star, visited North Korea this week to watch a basketball game between the USA and North Korea, in addition to filming for a new HBO series. After spending quite a bit of time with the country’s leader, Kim Jong Un, ABC.com is calling Rodman, “an unlikely ambassador for sports diplomacy at a time of heightened tensions between the U.S. and North Korea.”

4. Fourthmeal … or Horsemeal?


The Huffington Post reported Friday that a test involving the infamous Taco Bell fast food chain in England resulted in the finding of horsemeat in the ground beef. While the company immediately withdrew the “beef” from sale, I think I’ll be sticking to the bean burritos from now on…

3. Pope Leaves Vatican for the Last Time


Pope Benedict XVI left the Vatican for the last time as the official pope on Thursday. He was taken by helicopter to begin his retirement, leaving his followers and colleagues to wonder what is to come.

2. Sinkhole Swallows Man


A Florida man is assumed to be dead after a sinkhole formed under his home this week and, quite literally, swallowed him up while he was sleeping in his bed. Not crazy enough for you? Authorities stated that the sinkhole is around 30 feet in diameter and 20 feet deep and is continuing to grow. The man’s brother heard his screams as he fell into the hole but was unable to save him; the search has since been called off.

1. And the Oscar Goes to…


Ben Affleck’s “Argo” took home the Oscar for Best Picture at the awards last Sunday. Other show-stealers included Jennifer Lawrence (Best Actress), Ang Lee (Best Director) and Daniel Day-Lewis (Best Actor).

Pope Benedict XVI became the first pope in 600 years to announce his resignation this week, blaming old age and poor health.

4. Do the Harlem Shake!

The latest Internet dance craze, the Harlem Shake, exploded this week causing everyone from the University of Georgia’s swim team to the Mizzou student body to take part.

3. Out of this World: Meteor Hits Russia

More than 1000 people injured when a meteor hit the city of Chelyabinsk, Russia this past Friday.

2. Third Nuclear Test Conducted in North Korea

North Korea government confirmed that they did indeed conduct their third test of nuclear weapons, causing concern to several nations in the UN and around the world.

President Obama made his State of the Union Address last Tuesday, which focused on jobs and the economy. He even proposed a minimum wage increase, which just may affect all of us while we're in college. To read the full speech, go here.

Let’s face it: being a college kid is hard. With classes, homework, extracurricular activities and much-needed napping, it’s easy to get trapped in the same routine and lose touch with reality. I think it’s safe to say that, for most of us, keeping up with current events means checking People.com every couple of days to get the latest scoop on "The Bachelor’s" Sean Lowe. But, seeing as we are working toward becoming functioning, adult members of society one day, it’s important that we know what’s going on in the world outside of the Zou. So, here’s a rundown of what you may have missed last week.

5. The Northeast Turned Into the North Pole


A huge snowstorm hit the northeast this week, causing millions to lose power in what is being called “Blizzard 2013.”

4. Hillary Clinton Resigned


As of this week, Hillary Clinton has officially left her post as Secretary of State. In a letter to Obama, Clinton stated: “I am more convinced than ever in the strength and staying power of America's global leadership and our capacity to be a force for good in the world.” John Kerry, 2004 presidential candidate, is her successor.

3. Fall 2013 Fashions Hit the Stage

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is taking over the Big Apple from February 7-14. Every designer who wishes to make a name for themselves is taking the runways by storm with their newest collections, so take note!

2. War in Syria Wages On


In what has been declared as a “full-on crisis,” the U.N. reported that thousands are fleeing the bloody Syrian war, which is rapidly turning into a global conflict.

1. The Ravens Beyoncé Won the Super Bowl


Enough said.
