Girly Rants: Great Dress-pectations
As the seasons change and temperatures waiver, obviously our trends do, too. It’s simple math: When the temperatures go up, we shed layers of clothes and expose skin. However, with the changing weather and clothing choices, boy’s expectations of what we should wear change as well.
On those gorgeous sunny days that reach into the 70s, 80s, and dare I say 90s, most girls slip into some comfy Nike shorts (the notorious ‘norts’) and a tank top. I know I’m not just speaking for myself when I say that. Dressing up for class takes a lot of effort and care that I tend to lack while anticipating an 8 a.m. class, or really in general, regardless of the time.
So there we are, all happy and excited about the warm weather and boys playing shirtless football on their front lawns as we walk to class, but here’s the problem: In most of their heads, they’re looking at us and thinking, “Uh… It’s warm out. Why aren’t these girls in pretty little sundresses, booty shorts, tight skirts and low tank tops?”
HA! Well maybe it’s because I’m freaking lazy. Or maybe it’s because I don’t feel the need to get dolled up for class when I’m most likely going to sweat it off and ruin whatever I put together, then I’ll look really great. Or it could be the fact that I don’t want to look like a hooker. Take your pick, gentlemen.
Boys tend to have these ideal outfits they always want girls to wear. When it’s warm outside, they want to see a ton of skin and girly dresses. When it starts to get cooler out, all they want to see are Lulu Lemon yoga pants (hmm… wonder why.) Way to be unpredictable, guys.
In reality, those ideal images they want to see are usually pretty inconvenient to “casually throw together” each day and look perfect. Sorry I like to sleep. I, in no way, shape or form, want to wake up an extra hour early to style my hair, perfect my make-up and coordinate an outfit.
So basically, no matter what the weather, I’m going to be strolling around campus looking like a sloppy mess in my Nike shorts and tank top, but comfortable and well rested. Sorry to disappoint, boys!
