Queen B’s Bangin’ Super Bowl Halftime Show

On Feb. 3, the nation tuned in to watch the Beyoncé concert that featured a football game. Or at least that’s what this year’s Super Bowl game turned into, as soon as the queen of R&B, Beyoncé Knowles, was announced as this year’s halftime performance. The Baltimore Ravens, this year’s Superbowl Champions, faced off with the San Francisco 49ers, and clearly they were not the only ones bringing their A game. She not only mesmerized the crowd with a flawless performance, but she also gave us a surprising Destiny’s Child throwback performance with her soul sisters, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

In the opening act, B ascends from under the stage like a fabulous alien emerging from a ship crash landed on earth, surrounded by smoke and strobe lights as she stomps her way down the stage singing her opening song, “Love on Top.” She was very in touch with the elements during her performance, at times incorporating fire, ice and smoke in other various forms. At one point, she even sang while a member of the band slammed on a guitar shooting out fire and sparks from the top and bottom right next to her.

Not only was her performance hot, her ensemble was a sexy, yet futuristic, black, leather and lace bodysuit. The intricate garment was designed by Rubin Singer and is reportedly made out of various animal skins such as leather, iguana and python and took over 200 hours to make by a team of 14 people.

Her entire performance lasted around 14 minutes, and her set included a 7-song lineup. Needless to say, the game had millions more viewers when she came onstage and millions less once her performance was over. She became the trending topic on Twitter, Facebook blew up with images and Beyoncé statuses, and Tumblr users instantly blogged images, gifs and posts of Queen B onstage.

Beyoncé’s Super Bowl performance is noted to be one of the best in the history of halftime shows, free from any unexpected wardrobe malfunctions or obscene gestures from people onstage, which can’t be said for former performers that have graced the halftime stage like Janet Jackson and M.I.A. Beyonce commanded the stage so ferociously during her performance, she took the lights with her when it was over! Jay-Z tweeted his own two-cents about his wife’s incredible performance, “Any Questions??” Enough said.

5 Dating Tips to Capture the Heart of Mr. Right

Imagine for a second you are in your dorm room (or apartment) sitting on your bed. Your mind is racing and your nerves are going haywire because you think you just met the one.

He was perfect, every quality you could ever imagine in your dream guy wrapped into one hot package. You’re basically frothing at the mouth as you describe each moment of his biblical epicness to your half-attentive roommate as she mutters “hmm” or “oh, wow” appropriately every few minutes from behind her laptop. And to think, he lives just two floors down and loves attending summer music festivals just as much as you do (cue the wedding bells)!

Maybe you both exchanged cell numbers or added each other on Facebook and you simply don’t have the patience to wait until the next time you run into him at the library. You’re tempted to send him a little “just wanted to say hey” text or maybe a shoot him a flirty poke on Facebook … after all, he must feel as excited as you do right now, right?

You know you should probably wait until he reaches out to you, but you cave. You hit the send button, you knock on his door and invite him to coffee, you sit at his favorite table at the library just incase he decides to study that night. You can’t help but think: “Was it too soon? Do I seem clingy? Was that too forward?” Then, the nerves kick back in, along with the nail-biting anticipation of his response or arrival.

We’ve all been there. You’ve had a similar experience. You’re shaking your head.

Let’s face it, you may have blown it once or twice with Mr. Right, or maybe you haven’t even met him yet, but from now on, you’ll never have to worry about your next romance being the one who got away. Here are a few time-tested tips to being irresistible, on-demand and keeping your man around!

Tip One:

Be a woman unlike any other women! This isn’t something you are born with - it takes practice, practice, practice! It is being confident and radiating happiness and self-worth from head to toe. Stand up straight, smile genuinely, laugh loudly, be present in every moment, do everything with purpose and captivate the crowded room. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you look like, any girl can channel her inner goddess. It has always been said that if you think, “I am a woman unlike any other woman,” you will radiate confidence, charm and charisma, and people will be drawn to you like moths to a flame.

Likewise, if you think, “I feel insecure, and I don’t have self-confidence,” people will not be able to recognize how great you really are. So be mindful about the way you carry yourself. Be fluid, calm, sexy and genuine, not frigid, jerky or anxious. You are a woman unlike any other woman!

Tip Two:

Let men do the chasing! Mystery is very alluring to men. They love the chase and are attracted to girls who make them work for their attention. If you are at a party or the library and make flirty eye contact with a cute guy, let him come to you first! It may sound extreme or painfully hard (especially if he looks like Leonardo DiCaprio), but it works. Don’t stare too much. It is best if you just seem generally interested in your surroundings, the people around you, or life in general, than to look at him like he is live prey. When they do come up and talk to you, be attentive but cool - don’t give away too much at first. Keep the conversation light while being yourself and showing that you are smart, interesting, funny and a woman unlike any other woman!

If he is really interested, which he should be if you are using these tips, he will ask for your number, find you on Facebook or even suggest you meet up for dinner or coffee sometime. But even if he does, don’t forget about the chase. You have to maintain this air of mystery, or he may get easily bored and move on.

Tip Three:

Keep yourself busy! If you are a woman unlike any other woman, you are on-demand at all times. Keep your schedule packed with activities and plans, such as social outings with friends, study sessions, volunteering, working out, jobs, clubs and activities. That way you can meet more people, learn, grow and mature in the process! It also helps to keep busy if you have a date coming up, that way you are not obsessing or stressing about the date, and your mind can be on other things instead of psyching yourself out. It’s important to end the date or phone call first, leaving your dream guy wanting to hear from you or see you more often! Again, it may sound harsh or extreme, but these are time-tested tips because they work. Let him realize that you are a beautiful, on-demand and busy woman!

Tip Four:

Don’t rush into physical intimacy right away! Remember, guys love the chase, and if they can get in bed with you after the first date, the mystery and allure will be ruined right away! If you really think he is Mr. Right, make him work hard for your affection. If you want to keep him around, no more than kissing on the first couple of dates. Leave the rest up to his imagination so that he will want to see you again and again. If your relationship does move to that level of physical intimacy, make sure that you are ready, be safe, and always use protection.

Tip Five:

Move on, and don’t linger on rejection! Love is a very unfair game at times. Feelings often get hurt and heartbreaks do happen. If you end a relationship or get broken up with, it is okay to mourn. Take time for yourself and grieve what you once had, but the main thing to remember is to pick yourself up after a few days and get back in the game! Life is short, and time stops for no woman! So put on your cutest outfit, do your hair and makeup, and go out with your friends to parties, clubs, events and dinners, and put yourself out there! Don’t become too hung up or overanalyze men who reject you- another great guy is on the way and is excited to meet you and get to know you. It’s his loss … next!

So whether you’re dating, tied down, single and looking, or somewhere in between, these tips can help change your relationship from a fling to a long-term thing! Practice makes perfect, so get out there, and have fun! Remember: be mysterious, be alluring, be yourself, and be a woman unlike any other woman!

Fragrance Jewelry: It Makes Scents

Fragrance can be one of the easiest additions to any look. The application process is simple: spritz the neck, wrists, bend of the knees and sometimes in the hair. A trend that was popular back in the 90s is resurfacing and breaking the rules of the way we typically wear a scent. Designers are now recreating scented jewelry- necklaces, earrings and bracelets - that either contain perfumed oils or carry fragrance beads. Not only are they a beautiful addition to any ensemble, but they also prevent your perfume from fading throughout the day.

Lisa Hoffman designed an entire line of earthy and oriental inspired jewelry. She also collaborated with Tom Binns on a line that is sleek and has a more minimalistic feel with a spiced-bohemian scent. Her jewelry ranges from $65-$250.

Chloé also came out with its own solid perfume locket which is infused with the brand’s signature scent. The design is very dainty and feminine- peach with the classic Chloé name printed on the front. Although it sold out almost immediately, some can still be found at select Saks Fifth Avenue locations.

A less-expensive ($29.99), but still chic fragrance necklace comes from the designer Jewelmint. The Pomander Pendant contains a piece of cotton which you spray with your favorite scent and carry along with you. Because this scent is so popular amongst its buyers, the brand releases this scent multiple times a year.

With the addition of these jewelry perfumes, anyone can make two fashion statements in one without breaking the bank. Not having to buy perfume and jewelry separately could be a bonus that your wardrobe and wallet could use right now.

Scentsational: Fall's Most Fabulous Fragrances

One of the best aspects of autumn weatherbesides bringing out our favorite wardrobe piecesis the smell. Walking around campus, it’s hard not to appreciate the scent of leaves falling off trees, pumpkin-spice flavored drinks from nearby coffee shops and the latest perfumes wafting from students on their way to class. This season, warm, spicy and light floral notes are big for the cold weather, such as leather, sandalwood and pink pepper.

Marchesa "Parfume D’Extase"

Want a noticeable fragrance that you would wear while beaming at photographers on the red carpet? Notes of iris, Orris root, jasmine and musk will bring out your inner diva. ($85 for 1.7 oz; Macys.com)

Lady Gaga "Fame"

Although known for its surprising black color, this potion is not as edgy as it looks, with sweet notes of orchid, apricot nectar, belladonna and jasmine. ($79 for 3.4 oz; Macys.com)

Tom Ford "Jonquille De Nuit"

This fragrance gives the feeling of wandering through a secret garden at night, with lush notes of warm amber, violet leaf, narcissus and peppery angelica seeds. ($205 for 50 milliliters; Saks.com)

Donna Karan "Woman"

Not only does the bottle look like a dark, sensual piece of modern art, but the scent is just as sophisticated. Orange blossom, sandalwood and Haitian Vetiver give this scent an alluring trace that will leave anyone wearing it, well, like a woman. ($85 for 1.7 oz; Macys.com)

Halle Berry "Closer"

Are you more of a cologne girl? Or love the manly smell you whiff while hugging your boyfriend? Halle Berry introduces her newest complex scent containing water lily, cedar, vanilla, musk and cashmere wood. ($28 for 1.0 oz; Kohls.com)

Givenchy "Eaudemoiselle" Body Mist

This body-softening mist can only be best described as the smell of a rosebush after a dewy rain. Notes of citrus, ylang-ylang, tincture of rose and tonka bean take this fragrance from traditional to modern. ($46 for 3.4 oz; NeimanMarcus.com)

Whatever your preferred fragrance selection may be, keep in mind that each person wears it differently. Thanks to biology, the way fragrance oils combine with our skin varies on our own pH balance, body chemistry, and skin type. So before making any grand fragrance purchases, let the perfume sit on your skin for about 10 to 15 minutes before making your final decision.

Also, remember that the best places to spray are at the pressure points on our wrists, elbows, behind the knees and base of the throat, as those are the places where our veins are closest to the skin’s surface, releasing the most heat and therefore, scent.

The Sound of Style: Playlists for Different Fashion Trends

When we think about our individual style, we first look at the types of clothes we wear and the music we listen to. Since the dawn of fashion, music has influenced the way we dress ... think The Beatles and Lady Gaga, and vice versa. Nowadays, you can’t go to a fashion show of any kind without expecting to watch the models breeze past you to a pulsing beat, and you wouldn’t want to either! So whatever style category you fit under, there will always be a correlating sound.

Preppy Cool

The preppy look has always been about being effortlessly put together with a laid-back attitude. Clean-cut and studious, nothing defines preppy more than traditional Ralph Lauren polos or a classic Burberry trench coat. Preps redefine what it means to be cool, and their British influence has been prominent in our cultures since the dawn of plaid and boat shoes. So it only seems fitting that their music preference would be as classic like a tune by Jack Johnson, or a song you can listen to while hitting the books in the library.

1. Gomez “Airstream Driver”
2. Jack Johnson “You and Your Heart”
3. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros “Jangling”
4. Neon Trees “Everybody Talks”
5. Train “50 Ways to Say Goodbye”
6. Phillip Phillips “Home”
7. Of Monsters and Men “Little Talks”
8. Teddybears “Cardiac Arrest (feat. Robyn)”
9. Cold War Kids “Louder than Ever”
10. Muse “Starlight”

City Slicker

The city slicker comes with a lot of attitude and individualism. Always ahead of the latest trends, you’ll constantly see their style change as many times as the weather, while always maintaining a sophisticated, urban feel. Like their look, music is about expressing their personality through songs that they can listen to while cruising downtown at night with the top back.

1. The xx “Sunset”
2. Albert Hammond Jr. “Hard to Live in the City”
3. Phantogram “When I’m Small”
4. Pretty Lights “Hot Like Sauce”
5. Nas “Cherry Wine (feat. Amy Winehouse)”
6. Kanye West & JAY Z “No Church in the Wild (feat. Frank Ocean)”
7. The Kills “U.R.A Fever”
8. M83 “Midnight City”
9. Frank Ocean “Pyramids”
10. Gary Clark Jr. “Bright Lights”

Grungy Skater

The grungy-skaters are our generation’s rebels. They’re fearless and aren’t afraid to show it. Always going against the system, they stick to an edgy and more gothic look by adding leather, studs, and combat boots to almost every outfit. Not only do they look more hardcore, but their music also reflects their badass demeanor with elements of punk rock and 90’s metal.

1. Sleigh Bells “Infinity Guitars”
2. Shiny Toy Guns “Le Disko”
3. Crystal Castles “Not In Love (feat. Robert Smith)”
4. The White Stripes “Fell in Love With a Girl”
5. Joan Jett “Bad Reputation”
6. Odd Future “Forest Green (feat Mike G)”
7. Arctic Monkeys “I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor”
8. Lotus Plaza “Strangers”
9. King Tuff “Bad Thing”
10. The Smith Westerns “Weekend”

Femme Fatal

Bubblegum pink, lace and sweet florals are perfect for our girly girls. Envious of our childhood characters such as Princess Ariel and My Little Pony, they are always mimicking the toys we played with from our youth. They love both the doe-eyed baby doll makeup paired with anything sweet and romantic; always a play on both sex appeal and innocence. There is no question that their music selection will have songs that they can skip along with and daydream about sweet nothings.

1. Lana Del Rey “National Anthem”
2. Mac DeMarco “My Kind of Woman”
3. Best Coast “When You Wake Up”
4. The Cure “Just Like Heaven”
5. Ellie Goulding “Guns and Horses”
6. Feist “I Feel it All”
7. Girl in a Coma “El Monte”
8. No Doubt “Hella Good”
9. Taylor Swift “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”
10. Phantom Planet “Do the Panic”

The New Hippie

A new wave of cool has taken the world by storm and its nothing shy of malignant. The hipster culture is a unique style that always has a personality behind every outfit. You can spot many influences in their look, and depending on the individual, can be girly, tribal, or more street-chic. Their against-the-grain attitude is easily shown in their funky indie tunes and rhythmic beats which come from punk rock, to African rhythms, to 80s-style synth dream-pop.

1. Radiohead “Optimistic”
2. Porcelain Raft “Drifting In and Out”
3. Cults “You Know What I Mean”
4. Iron & Wine “Flightless Bird, American Mouth”
5. Grizzly Bear “Knife”
6. Teen Daze “Let’s Fall Asleep Together”
7. Real Estate “It’s Real”
8. Lykke Li “Silver Springs”
9. Ratatat “Loud Pipes”
10. The Redwalls “Summer Romance”

Retro Throwback

Popularly known as mod, the retro look has come back in full force. Sporting our parents’ favorite pieces from their teen years, retro junkies keep the past present and as stylish as ever. You can always spot them coming out of local thrift stores decked out in groovy vintage accessories. Keeping with the oldies look, their music is obviously a revival of the greats along with an emphasis on post-punk and psychedelic new-age rock and hip-hop.

1. The Eagles “Hotel California”
2. The Flaming Lips “The W.A.N.D”
3. Crowded House “Don’t Dream It’s Over”
4. Beck “Gamma Ray”
5. MGMT “Indie Rokkers”
6. Janis Joplin “Piece of My Heart”
7. Outkast “Ms. Jackson”
8. Depeche Mode “Precious”
9. Tame Impala “Solitude is Bliss”
10. The Drums “Let’s Go Surfing”

Sporty Chic

Along with a fast paced life, the athletic look is about ways of getting active and pumped up. Usually sporting sweats and zip-up jackets, the look is all about being comfortable and being ready for some competition. The music selection, along with the attire, can be very eclectic, ranging from alternative-rock jams to cool electronic rhythms that will get anyone’s blood pumping and adrenaline rushing, both on the field and off.

1. Kanye West “All of the Lights”
2. Asher Roth “G.R.I.N.D (Get Ready It’s a New Day)”
3. Passion Pit “Take a Walk”
4. Blink-182 “All the Small Things”
5. Chiddy Bang feat. MGMT “The Opposite of Adults”
6. Crystal Castles “Vanished”
7. Drake “Crew Love (feat. The Weeknd)”
8. Ellie Goulding “Lights (Bassnectar Remix)”
9. Foster the People “Don’t Stop (Color on the Walls)”
10. Girl Talk “Shut the Club Down”

The next time you hear a song you like on the radio, it could determine the way you dress until you can’t stand to hear it played again. Ever listen to Muse and think that it’s time to bring out your old, dusty leather jacket? Regardless of your style, you can always find music that relates, even if you’re a combination of both.
