"The Carrie Diaries" Chronicles A Young Carrie Bradshaw
“Sex and the City” lovers rejoice! The CW has taken a novel, written by Candace Bushnell, and given us the gift of a fabulous spin-off, chronicling the life of a young Carrie Bradshaw.
“The Carrie Diaries,” which premiered Monday, January 14,stayed true to the mother series by portraying a blossoming romance between New York and Bradshaw, depicting Bradshaw’s creative mind and passion for fashion through fun 80s get-ups and showcasing her fabulous bouts of creativity through the way she stylishly improvises. A familiar, clever narrative from our beloved Bradshaw was also heard throughout scenes--which hit close to our Sarah Jessica Parker ruled persona.
However, the audiences of this new show may change. With the fresh, young depiction of Bradshaw by young actress, AnnaSophia Robb, the adolescent drama of high school and the presence of innocent teenage issues like finding one’s self and losing one’s virginity, more mature audiences of “Sex and the City” may be turned away.
Nonetheless, young audiences will be drawn in and many will relate to the show as real issues are revealed throughout the series. We watch as Bradshaw deals with the difficulty of her mother’s death while growing into a young woman and finding who she truly is.
Fashion, love, self discovery and even sex (played softly and smartly by producers) are the recipe for this new series. Tune in Monday toThe CW at 8/7c to discover young Bradshaw for yourself!
