There is nothing better than to roll your windows down and blast some great tunes in your car on a summer day. There are lots of new albums coming out this summer, so we’ve compiled a list of six releases you should keep an eye out for. From rap to electronic, there is bound to an album that perks your interest on our list!
Skillet - Rise
Released June 25
Skillet comes back to the music scene with their ninth album, which follows their recognizable mix of soaring rock music with impacting lyrics. The Christian rock band, which features husband and wife duo John and Korey Cooper as the lead vocals, features a wide arrange of styles and subjects in this album. John Cooper said in an interview with CCM Magazine that the album is a “roller coaster ride.” The album includes 12 tracks, and the deluxe version includes three bonus tracks and a DVD.
Editors - The Weight of Your Love
Released July 1
The British alternative rock band Editors recently released their fourth studio album, The Weight of Your Love. This is their first album since the departure of lead guitarist Chris Urbanowicz. They sound like a mix of Kings of Leon and Dashboard Confessional, and lead singer Tom Smith says they pulled a lot from R.E.M and Arcade Fire for this new album. The album features 11 tracks with an option of a double CD, which adds five additional tracks.
Mariah Carey - The Art of Letting Go
Releasing July 23
After a four-year hiatus from music -- marrying Nick Cannon and birthing twins can keep you pretty busy -- Mariah Carey has announced she is releasing a new album! This tightly kept-under-wraps album (Wal-Mart actually leaked the title) is her 14th album. The tracks and album art have not been released, but Mariah has confirmed it will be full of her famous ballads with some not-so-expected styles. The first single, #Beautiful, is currently at number 15 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
Selena Gomez - Stars Dance
Releasing July 23
Selena Gomez finally is releasing her debut solo album the day after she turns 21-- let’s hope she isn’t feeling too rough on launch day. The album has 12 tracks and will be mostly pop and dance music. She has stated that Britney Spears and Skrillex were both big influences on the music for this album. We expect this to a great choice to blast in your car or living room when you want to have a random dance party.
Tech N9ne - Something Else
Releasing July 30
Tech N9ne has a history of throwing together fast, catchy lyrics with heavy and recognizable beats. This album is sure to head that way, although Tech N9ne stated this album has huge depth to the lyrics and was able to write songs about subjects he was afraid to in the past. This is the 13th album for the Kansas City-bred rapper. The album features lots of collaborations, some with big names such as Cee-Lo Green, Wiz Khalifa, B.o.B and T-Pain. The album has 21 tracks, separated into three distinct sections; earth, wind and fire.
Blue October - Sway
Releasing August 20
Blue October, the alternative band whose album Foiled in 2006 brought them mainstream, will be releasing their seventh album in August. They kicked off this album with a PledgeMusic campaign to help them raise funds for the album. Blue October left their major recording label and is now a fully independent band, so they needed a bit of help financially to create the new album. They were able to reach their goal within three days and are currently at 176 percent of their goal -- hopefully this means the album will be amazing!
